With the rumours of “Free Education” going around, Germany has recently garnered a lot of interest among Nepali students. However, if one takes a closer look at the fee structure of the German universities, it is easy to see that education itself is not free but is nominal as most of the universities have waived tuition fees. However, all universities do charge some nominal fees in the range of 50 to 300 Euros per semester, that covers all the administrative, library, lab fees at the university and also the travel expenses for six months. After paying the semester fees, each student receives a student id card as well as a semester ticket (travel card) that is valid for 6 months. So, if you hear someone announcing “Free Education” in Germany, please don’t be fooled and verify everything yourself!!
